The journal begins

I've decided to move myself and my annual gardening journal into the 21st century.  The picture above was taken around June 10th.  We added the Grow Camp to our garden this year, and so far, so good! We also have a 4 x 8 foot bed, and have a 42 inch by 25 foot strip along the side of the house dedicated to veggie gardening.  There are some flower beds, but that side of things is, shall we say, under developed.  In other words, we have plenty of projects ahead of us over the next several years.

Today I was out in the garden before 7:00 AM to work on some overdue weeding in the first raised bed.  I harvested the last of the spring lettuce and planted a double row of beets in its place.  While I was working the baby robins in the nest under the deck took their first flights, with parents calling to them from close by.  There were two downy woodpeckers on the pine tree, yellow finches in the wild grape vines, and blue jays flying in and out amongst the trees.  The yellow finches are really active in the upper branches of the pine tree, and it is beautiful to see them.  The orioles were not to be seen this morning.
